Context
Rationale
Over this period from September 2019, at college, I have been given lots of different practical experiences and knowledge involving the creative media arts, ranging from cinematic cinema all the way to radio and broadcasting. Earlier in the year, we had a lighting workshop with Marcus, we learnt the importance of good lighting and the difference in hard light, soft light and intensity, these skills will definitely be put to use for this project as good lighting is what makes or breaks a photo/video. In production we learnt how white balance works involving different colour temperatures, tungsten and fluorescent, these newly learnt camera skills were influenced to choose photography for my discipline.
What I aim to create is a range of different product photography shots for a Chanel No5 bottle, to be presented in a zine(print) alongside this photography I will also create a product video/ commercial. I chose Chanel because I feel I can stick to an iconic and recognizable style and aesthetic if I keep to this branding my project will be successful. There have been lots of campaigns in the past for Chanel so doing my research and taking inspiration from these other projects will support me in the concept of my project, maybe by combining these. Research on how to create effective product photography and lighting setups will help me to create these photos, research into photoshop retouching will also take a big role in my project. Resource wise, I will need a studio setup, this includes a backdrop, lights and camera, alongside all of the tripods and stands that accompany these things, I have multiple bottles of the perfume in different shapes and sizes that I can use to photograph and video. I want to present all of my photos into print, specifically, a zine where the photos can be presented in a sleek and elegant way, I maybe also will create a webpage for the photos to be presented alongside the video. My final realization for this is to create an iconic looking, sleek and elegant portrayal of product photography and videography, my time scale will be that production takes place commencing the 18th of may finishing 19th of June.
Evaluation
I intend to record all of my decisions through voice notes and photos, showing behind the scenes through photographs, like my other projects I will make videos showing the process of my editing processes and how I created certain shots. Video tutorials will be made to show the processes. All of my evaluations, research and presentations will be presented on this website in easy to read formats. Keeping to the brand style it will be presented in a sleek and minimalist way . I hope to conclude the project for my Zines to be printed out into a physical print.
Initial Response
Here's a video of me basically summarizing my intentions and concept. In this video, I also talk about the potential issues with this concept. I prefer to self-document in this way because it puts less strain on me for having to write a lot, I can just set up the camera, press record and ramble away, all ums, errs and awkward silences are edited out.
Meeting with mentor
To finalize our concept we had a call with our teacher and other peers to present our ideas and intentions, we created 2-minute elevator pitches to discuss our course of action and give feedback to each other.

After a successful pitch, with a frustrating internet connection, my mentor sent back an email giving me some other people in the higher years work to use as inspiration. She also raised the concern that I need to decide exactly what I'm aiming to do, is it commercial/ product, editorial/still life photography or ad campaign. So in my research, I intend to look at a range of different sources to determine what line of work I want to go down. She also pointed out I also need to work out exactly what I want for my video as well.
